These newsgroups are often mistakenly associated with the provider NLnet. To avoid confusion, a new Dutch hierarchy has been created. * The name of the new Dutch nationwide hierarchy will be 'nl'. * The name of the new Dutch distribution will be 'nl'. To enable this new hierarchy, each 'NewsAdmin' (maintainer of a Usenet site) that wishes his/her site to carry Dutch news, should take some precautionary measures. The new hierarchy will be maintained by the 'nl-authority'. Only the nl-authority is allowed to broadcast messages within the nl-hierarchy to create ('newgroup') or delete ('rmgroup') newsgroups, or to give an automated advice about its structure ('checkgroups'); these messages are called "Netnews control messages" and are distributed by means of Usenet. The nl-authority will broadcast control messages from the following mail-addresses: news@info.nic.surfnet.nl news@a3.xs4all.nl These mailaddresses are being maintained by: Bert Stals Adri Verhoef During the interim transition from the nlnet-hierarchy to the nl-hierarchy these two hierarchies will exist next to each other temporarily. The first two newsgroups within the nl-hierarchy will be: nl.newsgroups Voor RFD's en CFV's over nl.* nieuwsgroepen. nl.test Voor testdoeleinden. nl.newsgroups is intended only for "new" (nl.*) RFD's and CFV's (not for newsgroups that already have their existing equivalent in the nlnet-hierarchy). This message has been posted to nlnet.announce, nlnet.misc, soc.culture.netherlands and news.groups. Because of this new situation, please pass this message on to your neighbour-newssites. This message is a repeat from last week, and will be repeated next week. (Perhaps new news-neighbours have been added, or people might have missed the original message.) Soon after the last announcement, the nl-authority will send the first newgroup control messages. WHAT TO DO ---------- (We will focus on the most popular newstransportsystems of these days, C News and INN.) 1. Adjust the Usenet 'sys'-file, to pass the nl-hierarchy to your neighbour sites. (As a rule of thumb: look where the string 'nlnet' occurs, and add the 'nl'-hierarchy.)
